Why SS304 hinge can be absorbed by magnet? (Original)

All this time, when customers use SS304 hinge, they will have a question that Why SS304 hinge can be absorbed by magnet.

Large scale hinge factories will choose SS304 or SS201 as raw material to produce stainless steel hinge. However, some hinge factories will use inferior material instead of SS304 material to cheat customers. When choosing stainless steel hinge, customers can’t distinguish it by eyes, so they usually use a magnet to absorb the stainless steel hinge to judge whether it is made of stainless steel material or not.

As a matter of fact, it’s not correct to test whether stainless steel hinge is made of stainless steel material or not.

A hinge consists of many accessories, which are stamping by molds. Raw material is SS304, but stamping molds are iron, so iron will be left during productive process. Moreover, because accessories of hinge are made of anti-rust iron (Notice: the hinge body is made of pure SS304, but other accessories are made of anti-rust iron, because SS304 has strong hardness and is brittle, if used to produce accessories, they will be easy to crack during productive process and in using.), which also can be absorbed by magnet through stainless steel material, so if using a magnet to absorb a stainless steel hinge, it is normal that it can be absorbed by magnet. If the hinge is demagnetized, it can’t be absorbed by magnet, but many factories will don’t demagnetize their stainless steel hinge.

Only SS304 exclusive medicine can judge whether stainless steel hinge is made of SS304 material or not.

 “Why is there such a wide difference among price of Chinese furniture hinge? ” Many customers discuss this subject with Kingwen Liang.

There are thousands of Chinese furniture hinge factories, 99.9% of which are located in Guangdong.

Guangdong has become the center of spring hinge production. It can be divided into several main centers according to location. Kingwen Liang will introduce this subject in following articles.

Many hinge buyers will not know what to do after inquiring the price of concealed hinge on line or in fairs.

For example, there are two normal two-way hinges, whose appearance and weight are similar, but the price is from 0.7 RMB to 1.5 RMB per piece. The highest price is two times as the lowest price. The layman can’t tell the difference among quality and price according to appearance and weight of hinge.

On this point, if a hinge buyer need to purchase large quantity of hinge and require high quality, maybe he should go to the hinge factory to have some acquaintance with the productive technology, QMS and production scale of hinge manufacturer.

First, productive technology of hinge

For instance, some hinge factories adopt fully automatic production equipment to produce the whole hinge, including hinge plate, hinge arm, fastenings and so on, so the quality of hinges produced by these factories will have guaranty. If the factories adopt the fully automatic equipment to produce hinge with one-step molding technology, one set of the fully automatic mold cost almost 200,000RMB, which demands the factory have a certain scale, or it can’t bear the cost of the expensive mold and reserve of talents. The quality control standards of these factories are strict and won’t allow the defective products to escape into the market. However, it’s ok for some other hinge factories to just stamp the look of hinge, assembly them and won’t inspect the quality. Then regard them as finished product and put them into market. This is one of the reasons of why there is such a wide difference among price of Chinese furniture hinge.

Second, material of hinge

For hinges produced with fully automatic production equipment, they are made of brand new material and there is a sign of cut, which the expert can discover just at a glance. But some hinge factories use leftover material to produce hinge. Some of them just roll the oil drum and then use them to make hinge, some of them use SECC and so on. Factories adopting fully automatic equipment use brand new material to produce hinge, while some factories use leftover material to produce hinge. If a hinge is made of leftover material, the thickness of one hinge is different or what is more, there is mixed material in one hinge, including cold rolled steel, galvanized sheet, oil drum material, etc. so their price will be much cheaper. This is the second reason why there is such a wide difference among price of Chinese furniture hinge.

Third, finish treatment of hinge

There is a big difference among price of finish treatment of hinge. Normally, a better finish treatment is first copper plated and then nickel plated, but the merits or defects of an electroplate factory also need to be considered. Though some electroplate factories apply this plated process as well, they use second-hand material to electroplate, which result in the electroplating effect is even worse than electroplate with nickel directly. New hinges made by some inferior hinge factories will rust before unpacking.

Fourth, quality of hinge accessories

Heat treatment of hinge accessories, such as U-shaped screw, screws and so on, is one of the important factors to affect the quality of hinges. Customers can’t tell whether the hinges have heat treatment or not with eyes, but whether a hinge can pass 50,000 close&open test or not is according to heat treatment. The fact is that the close&open test of lowest price hinges will appear these or those problems within 8,000 times, which is another reason why there is such a wide difference among price of Chinese furniture hinge. However, newly-built hinge factories hardly can reach the best effect of heat treatment.
